“Who wants to talk about school?” Cassie scrunched up her face and pretended to stick her finger down her throat before she giggled and propped her chin up on her elbows. “I just passed maths this year so I won’t have to repeat 5th form!” Cassie looked at his phone for a second, wondering who that could’ve possibly been. She decided to not beat around the bush and just ask him flat out. “Who was that, anyway?”

Niall smiled anyways afterwards. “Casey. Zayne’s sister.” He said quietly before turning back to Cassie. “And I’m proud of you.” He replied quickly. Niall looked over to the side, watching an old couple laugh with each-other. For some reason, Niall liked seeing that kind of stuff. It just meant that love was stronger. He narrowed his eyes before turning back to Cassie.

“So all of the boys are going on tour again, I think you should come with me.” He explained, clasping his hands together then placing them onto the table. “I really think my best-friend needs to be by my side at all times.” Niall added before smiling.

Cass giggled when kissed her temple, her arm firmly around his waist as they walked towards the resteraunt. She ran her tongue over her lips, ducked her eyes down when she saw the familiar flashes of cameras and yelled questions of the paparazzi. She smiled to herself remembering her first encounter with them; it was a few weeks into her friendship with Niall and he’d texted her to meet him at the park. Cass had shown up, excited and bouncy when they came out of nowhere and she had freaked out and ran away to hide into some nearby clothing store. Thankfully, she’d gotten used to it considering how much time she and Niall spent together nowadays.

“Table for two.” She heard Niall say, and Cassie withdrew her arm from around his waist, following the waiter to a table in the back corner of the place. She sat down across from him, picking up her menu and gasping in happiness when she saw all the food.

“Ohmygosh, this sushi looks like heaven on Earth!” She exclaimed, dancing around in her seat for a moment. Cassie giggled as she looked up at Niall, telling the waiter her order quickly and crossing her legs.

Niall shook his head. A huge smile on his face at how excited she looked. It was actually quite adorable. He nodded his head as if music had a good beat. He shook his head, laughing afterwards. Niall opened the menu. His eyes roaming the meal. He barely even knew what a cucumber roll was but Niall always liked Sushi. He closed it afterwards. “I’ll take just some clams?” He said, unsure of his decision. Niall shrugged and handed the waiter the menu. “And also just a two cokes.” He said quickly, hoping Cassie didn’t mind a coke. He leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms behind his head.

He watched the waiter walk away. He turned over towards Cassie. All of his attention on her. Niall cocked his head to the side. His eyes continuing to sparkle. He heard his phone go off. A groan escaped from underneath his breath. He held up one finger. He took it out, reading the caller ID. Casey. Zayn’s little sister. He flipped it open, putting his cellphone to his ear.

“Hello, Niall here.” He said before smiling at that. “Niall, can you come to me concert tonight?” Casey asked on the other side of the phone. Casey had the biggest crush on Niall but he didn’t take it seriously. “I’m busy,” He said before hanging up. He almost felt bad but it was just Casey. She wouldn’t exactly care. Niall turned back to Cassie. “Anyways, How are you doing with school?” He asked, trying to make conversation.

Cassie knew she couldn’t win in a fight against Brett. Not if her life depended on it. She was three years younger and at least four inches shorter. But it annoyed her to no end that Brett made Niall like this. A polar opposite of his happy-go-lucky self, quiet and hurt. She felt the physical ache in her chest when he was unhappy. It was like a mama dog with her pups, she was too protective of him and she hoped he didn’t think she was some sort of weirdo.

Cass felt her breath hitch in her throat when his lips met her hand, and she looked down at her lap, a small smile ghosting over her lips and a blush forming on her cheeks. It was things like that that he would do, just something small that he probably didn’t know meant the world and a half to her. And Cassie sincerely hoped she could make him feel that way as well. Infinite.

The car came to a stop, and she went to open the door but Niall’s bodyguard had already gotten out, walked all the way around, and opened it for her. She took the hand he held out for her and smiled, curtsying to him. That was one thing she still hadn’t gotten used to, being waited on when she was with Niall. She let go of his hand and waited for Niall to get out of the car, grinning to him as the pair made their way into the chinese resteraunt.

Niall unbuckled his seat-belt as they came to a stop. He ran his fingers through his dirty blond hair. He walked out of the car, slamming the door shut behind him. He slowly walked around to the other side to reach Cassie. Niall narrowed his eyes. He took a deep breath, reaching his best-friend. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, taking her hand then placing it around his waist. Niall leaned over to her, planting a light kiss on the side of her forehead.

He looked up as the paparazzi came out of nowhere. At the time, Niall didn’t care. They had a job too and that’s what their job was. He kept his arm around Cassie. If they ever questioned him, He would say she was just a best-friend which was the truth.

Niall opened the door for her, finally reaching a place with no flashing cameras. He looked up at the waiter. “Table for two.” He simply said, removing his hand from Cassie’s shoulder now.

Cassie felt the blood pound in her ears and she swore she was blushing out of fury while he was talking, her eyebrows furrowing and she bit her lip to keep from saying anything. It was things like that that reminded Cass exactly how much she hated that blonde bitch. She didn’t know what Niall was talking about with Louis, but Cassie had no doubt in her mind Brett was probably using him for fame. She looked like a gold-digger and she was as real as Pam Anderson’s tits, so it wouldn’t be a shock if that was the case.

Cassie was suddenly over-protective of Niall like how she always was when she heard or saw what Brett would do to him. It hurt her to see him that upset, and she swore she’d use her pretty pink heels for more than just walking the next time she saw Britch.

She reached over to him, grabbing his hand and intertwining their fingers before she looked up at him. “This is so cliche, but don’t listen to her, Niall. Obviously, she’s a gold-digging tramp and I don’t trust her as far as I can pick her up and throw her, but honestly. You can’t let her talk to you like that, especially since she’s completely wrong.

You’re singing’s ace and you’re a dime in a dozen, love. And lazy my ass; who’s the one who’s always going out of his way to make someone smile? Who’s the one who’s always doing something, even as small as getting an extra fanta or whatever for his friends? You. If she can’t see that, obviously this bitch is blind and…” Cass sighed, trying not to sound harsh but failing when she said: “I’ll destroy her.”

Niall looked down at their hands interlocked. He looked up at her as she spoke. A sad face was automatically put on his face when she said that.

‘I’ll destroy her’

He shook his head quickly. He honestly liked it when Cassie was protective over him. It actually made him feel good about himself and like someone actually loved him. Niall looked down at the ground. Even if Cassie tried to hurt Brett, Everyone knew Cassie wouldn’t win. Brett was about three years older than her. He shook his head once again. “I don’t think you should say that, Cass. It’s no big deal. Brett is three years older than you. Plus it doesn’t hurt me..” Niall trailed off, knowing that was a lie. “Just forget her, alright? I can fight my own battles.” He reassured her, started to caress the back of her hand with his thumb.

Niall slowly lifted up her hand pressing his lips to her soft skin gently before pulling his hand away from hers. He looked away, out the window. He stayed quiet for the rest of the ride.

“Stop!” Yelled Brett, completely in shock. “What did you just call me?” She was completely frozen in spot. It had haunted her mind, and it was at the tips of everyone’s lips, but only the nicest one in the group—Niall, of all people—had dared to say it. “Did you just call me fake? And a slut?” She was screaming now, her hand clamped on his shoulder. So maybe she wanted everyone to see her for some sweet little girl who donated to charity and was best friends with everyone. And maybe she wasn’t really like that. But it wasn’t fake. And she was not a slut.

“Yes,” she said, stepping closer, and her hair falling into her eyes. “I am using Louis to get to Zayn. It doesn’t make me a slut at all. I want Zayn, and I’m fighting for him. Isn’t that supposed to be romantic?” Brett was so angry, she could hardly form words. “Whatever,” she barked, pushing Niall away with her palms. “Go run back to your girlfriend.”

With that, she turned on one boot heel and stalked away, steam pouring out of her ears by the bucket load.

He fell forward a few steps, not falling on his face. Niall shook his head. Now he felt bad. He really shouldn’t of said that. It was kind of rude of Niall. He looked at the ground for a few seconds, wondering what to do next. Niall looked around his shoulder. He felt like actually crying but he bit down on his bottom lip, holding in the waterworks. Niall shook his head, walking forward. He followed Brett. A frown on his face.

Niall wrapped his hand around her elbow, making her spin around so she was facing him. “I didn’t mean to call you a slut. I said you were acting like one.” He simply said, letting her go now. “And I don’t have a girlfriend so your argument is invalid.” He added before walking past her, accidentally hitting her shoulder with his.

Cassie smiled at Niall, trying not to laugh at the face he’d just pulled but she couldn’t help it and burst into a fit of giggles before she turned back to him. “Nothing’s better than being with me, babe!” She replied cheekily, winking at him and laughing again.

This is what she liked about Niall. Things were never awkward like they were with other guys, he would just pull a face or say something and it was like she’d never heard of anything funnier. He made her feel comfortable, relaxed even, and with him it was never a matter of shoulda, coulda, woulda. It was like math with Niall, x was x and nothing else. Her and Niall were best friends, and though she hated to admit, nothing else. She supposed she should just be happy that she had someone like him in her life, someone to always brighten her day and make her feel special, but the more girlish-and-greedy side of her wished there was something more there. For now though, in that big black car with Niall smiling at her and her hair as red as rubies, Cassie was happy.

“I’m good, just kind of bugging out because of Brett but it’s no big deal. I’m sure, she’ll stop putting me down soon.”

Until Niall said that.

Cass was never a fan of Brett, to be honest. The first day they met, Cass found her absolutely stunning, but the blonde wouldn’t even give her the time of day. She was an Ice Witch, as Cassie liked to call her. She was just the most charming girl around the boys, but she always found some sort of snarky remark to make towards Niall and that pissed Cassie off to no end.

“What?” Cassie’s face darkened as she looked at him, her expression a mixture of concern and anger. “What’d she say now?”

‘What’d she say now?’

Niall’s eyebrows met in the middle. It was almost like it was hard to reply to the question. It did hurt him but Niall tried his best not to let her rude comments get to him. He shrugged his shoulders as if he didn’t care about the whole thing. “Well I was kind of rehearsing and she said how I couldn’t sing or how I’m a … lazy bastard. She might get me kicked out from talking to Louis.” He explained. His face turning into sadness now.

He lifted up his t-shirt, hiding his face. A sigh escaping his lips. He closed his eyes, trying to regain himself again. Niall then looked over at Cassie. “She is so rude to me. It hurts, you know?” He explained. “That’s all she does when she is alone with me. Someday, I will tell everyone about her but I can’t. Do you know how much Louis will hurt? And what if they don’t believe me?” Niall said, ranting on. He just had to let everything out.

He looked over at her, noticing that he was rambling about the situation. “It’s fine though.” Niall placed his hand on her shoulder. “Thank you for listening to me.” He whispered before looking to the side.

brett-turner:

The lack of reaction from Niall was so infuriating. She wanted him to blow up and call her a liar so she could push him against a wall and threaten to kill him. The only time she was happy was when she was around the boys as a group—otherwise she was always so furious. The media often called her bitchy Brett or even Britch. It didn’t bother her at all. She knew what she wanted, and it wasn’t fame, or fortune, or Louis. And she was going to stop at nothing to get it. She stepped closer into the dressing room, slamming the door shut with her ankle behind her so no one would interrupt.

“I have it in my mind to ask Louis to kick you out, Niall,” she sneered, fists clenched. “You don’t belong in this group. You don’t work for it! You’re a lazy ass bastard who never, ever, does anything!” Her voice was rising until she was practically screaming. She heard a whispered comment under his breath but couldn’t detect what it was. Her hazel eyes flashed.

“You think you can control me because you know a few little secrets? You’re wrong.”

When she said that, He shook his head. His eyes on the ground. Maybe Niall was afraid that if he looked her in the eyes, she would be angry. His eyes met in the middle. A hint of anger and sadness filled his light eyes. How could she be so cruel? But sometimes Niall understood why. He had something against that was big, something no one else knew but Niall. Guess Niall was such a smart person. He clasped his own fingers together, placing them onto his lap. “You can’t do that,” He simply stated in a quiet tone. Niall looked up at her. His eyes not leaving her face.

He quickly stood up from the couch. “A little secret?” He said with a raised eyebrow. “You’re using Louis to get to Zayn and Zayn doesn’t even like you. You’re acting like a huge… slut.” He managed to come up with. Niall didn’t exactly know why he was speakling up now but he has been holding it in for such a long time.

“You’re rude and disrespectful. You’re.. fake.” He said before somewhat walking towards her so he could leave. “This may be my dressing room but I’m leaving.” Niall noted in a husky whisper, walking past her.
